I make handmade cards for people. This started around 2004. At first, it was just layering a few pieces of textured paper and personalizing the inside to fit the occasion. Then I wanted to explore different shapes and ways of opening the card and how the card could be displayed/hung.

This is a card and envelope I made from materials I have left over from art school. Card stock, thread, brown paper used for covering books, colored paper. #5 sepia micron pen, exacto knife, spray mount, glue gun with glue stick, and the ever trustworthy 18” steel ruler and cutting mat. That’s it. Unless you want to factor in the medical tape I used to tape my fingers and wrist to help with stability while I was cutting. Oh, I also used a pencil grip on my exacto knife-what a lifesaver.

"I remember the first time I was swept up and really drawn into a movie and its story and the characters. Believe it or not, it was in 1997 at the movie theater and I was watching Titanic with my mom. I was perched on the arm rest because I couldn’t see over the sea of heads in front of us.
The part when Jack is holding on to Rose and they’re shivering from the bitter cold water. They’re talking and then he let’s go…. That part. That’s when I screamed, literally screamed, “NO!” My mom immediately covered my mouth with her hand. I didn’t understand why. But then I realized I had screamed out loud. That’s the first memory I have of being really drawn into a movie. Emotionally. Physically. Mentally.
And I was only seven years old."

I Think I’m Done Hibernating Now…

Hello!

I have good news. I have been hard at work since my last post. Yes, I have been slaving away working on video projects. Each month, it’s something new and challenging and (of course) consuming. It is now the end of March and nothing has been wrapped up! Meaning, lots of loose ends and working 3-4 projects at once gets confusing.

But, I will release this bit of information: I am hard at work on my first, personal short film since 2010. Preproduction started in January, script was set in February and shot near the end of the month. I’ve been in post production all of March, but some teaser and behind the scenes images have been released. I’m actually in the process of finishing up editing a teaser trailer!

I apologize for not documenting my entire process here. Without a doubt, I regret that. But here I am now! Making up for that. Some things have been documented on my personal Tumblr but anyways… That’s the update!

I made my friend her Christmas present this year. It’s a hairpiece constructed from ribbon, mesh ribbon, thread, wire, pearls and other necklace bits and bobs. I also sketched some example styles she could use the piece for in ink with a light watercolor wash to finish it off. I constructed the box using Bristol board, textured papers, cotton embroidered fabric, illustration board, and hot glue. The only thing I didn’t make is the actual ribbon material and the bow.

Overall, a fun but labor intensive little project.

Homemade French macaron trio box set. I made the cookies, the filling, the box, and tied the bow. I’ll post a more extensive set of images detailing my Christmas cookie gifting process next :)

Update

I haven’t posted in so long! I apologize. Taking pictures of my artwork then uploading them here just was not working out well. But, I have new projects. I will be posting again soon. And more regularly. Promise.
